Grass Grid Hexagon®
World’s Leading Grass Grid System
Installation Without a Sub-Base
Grass Grid Hexagon® has been a reliable solution on German playgrounds for over 10 years. Thanks to its patented hexagonal interlock, the panels can be installed extremely easily. Cities and municipalities save substantial costs because the system eliminates the sub-base layers of gravel and crushed stone typically required for impact-attenuating surfaces.
Grass Grid Hexagon® compensates for uneven ground and can be installed directly on native soil. Despite this unconventional installation method, the panels do not warp, require no edging restraints, and provide TÜV-certified impact protection in accordance with DIN EN 1177 and DIN EN 1176.

Grass Grid Instead of Loose Fill Materials
Installation is straightforward. Although removing the turf layer, leveling the sub-grade, and backfilling with a soil substrate costs a few hundred euros more than installing loose-fill materials such as gravel, sand, or wood chips, the long-term installation and maintenance costs are significantly lower—especially when considering the details.
DIN EN 1176 specifies that loose-fill surfacing must have a grain size of 2–8 mm, rounded, and free of clay content—an uncommon and expensive material. Loose-fill surfaces must also be regularly loosened, topped up, and maintained, resulting in several hundred euros in annual upkeep. Wood chips decompose over time, reducing impact performance. Gravel and sand face similar issues, along with contamination from animals and weed growth. Grass Grid Hexagon® eliminates these problems. It stabilizes native soil, prevents mud formation, ensures effective infiltration, and maintains its impact-attenuating properties without intensive maintenance.
The Patented Hexagon Principle
The Hexagon Principle creates an exceptionally stable mechanical interlock between each panel. Because the panels measure roughly one square meter and are relatively large, the hexagonal interlock greatly improves handling. Grass Grid Hexagon® panels snap together quickly and securely. In contrast to other grid systems, the connection does not wear over time and remains stable even on slopes. Edging restraints are unnecessary, as the interlock forms a unified, non-shifting surface.
